How it Works

The GYROKINESIS® Method consists of a series of movements that flow from one to the next, focusing on strength, balance, and flexibility. Currently, we’re offering The GYROKINESIS® Method in private sessions and semi-privates. On the horizon is Open level community classes. 

 The GYROKINESIS® exercise will use the stool, mat, and your own body. The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® uses a tower and various pieces of equipment to teach and show the body how to move. Both sessions are full of breathwork, rhythmical and fluid movements.

GYROKINESIS® exercise session includes self-massage and breathwork to wake up the body. From there groups of exercises to nourish and move the spine and hips in various directions. We curl, arch, spiral, bend and move in circular ways.  After that, the exercises proceed to work on balanced joint function in the hips, knees, and ankles, shoulders, arms, wrists, etc. The class develops to seated and lying exercises where the client puts in all together- culminating the work done earlier in the session. 

Similar to the function of our apparatus in the Pilates method, the GYROTONIC® apparatus serves as feedback and support to the user. Movements can then be done more evenly or resistant areas of the body can be freed up to move better.

I wanted to try this practice because my body has natural impediments to moving smoothly without hitches and the idea of decompression and creating internal space and support was very appealing.   
When we started learning the techniques, I really enjoyed the awakening routines and do those fairly regularly in my own morning routines. The internal support of the seed center has developed for me and I particularly enjoy the infinity-shaped rotations that start at the sit bones and work higher. I’ve gotten a lot of additional rotation and flexibility through my mid-back, which has been an especially “stuck” body part for me. 
I experience a lot of satisfaction in class from increased movement and internal strength. Pilates helped me understand how much internal muscle development can improve regular movement and improve quality of life. The GYROKINESIS® exercises help differently, having improved range of motion and showing me ways to better support myself and continue to move in ways I didn’t think I’d be able to as I get older.
