Agenda / Class Schedule
We are excited to offer the following slate of class offerings:
9:00 AM – 9:55 AM
Pilates Mat: Blending Science and Intuition with Misty Lynne C. and Viviana R
Join us in the opening session of Pilates Day Pittsburgh 2023 on May 21, 2023. Pilates is called a “mind/body/spirit” fitness modality because it asks its enthusiasts to move in a way that connects all three in order to achieve the maximum benefit. Within our modality exists multiple approaches to accomplishing the work, and each approach sees itself as “the way.” The science of Pilates lies in the bio mechanics of how the exercises work related to the way that we are made to move; as living, breathing fluid-based organisms there are certain facts and truths that keep us structurally sound. To view Pilates from the intuitive mindset, we consider the way we feel and experience movement from a felt awareness perspective that is centered upon how we live within our own bodies. This removes the element of right and wrong for the user, and replaces it with guided curiosity in order to understand how they can move better for them.
10:00 AM – 10:55 AM
ROLLOLOGY®: Second Session Pick your Own with Kristin B.
This is a Pilates Method based class but is its own creation. The ROLLOLOGY® class consists of floor exercises and a medium density foam roller exercises. The class is particularly good for clients who are looking for a good tall (extension based) workout. Core work and release work combined throughout the class make it versatile for different types of clients. Fitness clients looking for a good Core workout but perhaps on the fence if Pilates is for them would like this class. Another client who could benefit are those with Osteoporosis who understand the basics of the Method and how to connect in their center.
10:00 AM – 10:55 AM
Control: Second Session Pick your Own with Tiffany P.
“Inspired by Joseph Pilates’ work with dancers, Control sculpts your legs and glutes as you experience a whole new way of incorporating Pilates principles while standing up at the ballet barre. Integrating functional, standing movement into your Pilates practice increases strength, balance, stability, and control in ways that will enhance your everyday life. This class puts the “fun” into functional training!”
11:00 AM – 11:55 AM
The Genius of the Spiral with Carolyn J.
Carolyn Johnston an esteemed practitioner and teacher of the Alexander technique will work with us in the last session of this year’s event. Have you ever wondered how to keep the freshness and joyfulness of daily movement/Pilates lively as you practice and/or teach year after year? As we have different life experiences and go forward as adults many times we lose the freedom and ease we have had as children. The Genius of the Spiral will reveal to you why a spiraling within the Centerline of the body is simply genius. The process of understanding and sensing a spiral in your own body and facilitating this process in those with whom you work is a needed component in practicing and coaching for inspired longevity. Integration within the psycho/physical self, not isolation, is our motto for viewing the work through this lens.
